A single layer forming fabric is the least complex of the weave pattern categories and the 4, 5 shed and 8 shed configurations are still widely used in the paper making industry. And single layer forming fabrics for paper making are also applied in the manufacturing of multi-layer forming fabrics due to their good paper sheet forming properties.

Polyester 1.5 layer forming fabric is developped from single layer forming fabrics but with extra yarns to give the weave structure which is similar to double layer forming fabrics. This forming fabric for paper making provides good paper side smoothness and better pulp fiber retention.

Commonly known as 2.5-layer forming fabric, extra support double layer forming fabrics are to further improve the characteristics of double-layer design. It's a standard double layer forming fabric with an additional weft yarn on the paper side of the fabric. There is an improvement in paper sheet formation, smoothness, reduction of wire mark and better cleaning of the showers. Extra support double layer forming fabrics for paper making are commonly used in newsprint and fine papers production or in applications that use very short fibers.

A triple layer forming fabric has two independent layer integrated together by a binder yarn in the middle. Polyester triple layer forming fabrics perform a good combination of a fine paper surface and relatively coarse wear surface which results in excellent paper sheet surface and stable high life potential.
